The supercross series is set to make its third and final season stop at Angel Stadium on Saturday night with reigning champion Ryan Villopoto again atop the point standings.
Rookie Ken Roczen of Murrieta won the season opener at Angel Stadium in early January, and Villopoto won the next race in Phoenix.
Chad Reed then won the second Anaheim race of the season Jan. 18 and Villopoto won his second race of the year last weekend in Oakland.
Villopoto, a Kawasaki rider who is seeking his fourth consecutive Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series championship, now leads the title standings by seven points over Reed and by nine points over Roczen.
In the sport’s second-level “supercross lites” series, KTM rider Jason Anderson has won three of the first four races and holds a six-point lead over Cole Seely of Lake Elsinore in the championship standings.
Saturday night’s race schedule is 30 minutes earlier than normal. The opening ceremonies start at 6:30 p.m. followed by warmup heats, the supercross lites races and finally the 20-lap supercross main event.
