‘Dancing with the Stars’: NASCAR’s Michael Waltrip is early long shot

Michael Waltrip, a two-time winner of the Daytona 500 and now primarily a NASCAR team owner, is among the celebrities in this season’s “Dancing with the Stars” contest on ABC.
But at the outset, at least, the 6-foot-5 Waltrip is a long shot to win the show’s mirrorball trophy.
Waltrip, 51, and dancing partner Emma Slater were listed Monday with 33-1 odds to win the contest that premieres Sept. 15, according to the online gaming site Bovada.
They’re tied with the fashion industry’s Betsey Johnson and her partner, Tony Dovolani, for the second-longest odds, ahead of only comedian Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd, who are at 50-1.
The current favorites, at 3-1 odds, are actor/director Alfonso Ribeiro and dancing partner Witney Carson, according to Bovada.
Waltrip is following in the, well, footsteps of Helio Castroneves, the three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 who won “Dancing with the Stars” with Julianne Hough in 2007.
