The promoter for Amir Khan and Devon Alexander said Monday the two have agreed to a welterweight fight Dec. 7, with the venue to be determined.
Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions said he is awaiting word from officials in Dubai to see whether they have the “full capacity” to stage the International Boxing Federation title fight.
If they don’t, Schaefer said the bout will be at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“Both of them want to fight this year,” Schaefer said.
Alexander (25-1, 14 knockouts), the champion, last fought in May but injured his left hand before getting overweight Lee Purdy to retire in the seventh round.
Alexander, 26, has won four consecutive fights, including a split decision over hard-punching Lucas Matthysse in June 2011 and a unanimous decision over Marcos Maidana, who brawled with Khan in the 2010 fight of the year.
Khan (28-3, 19 KOs), from England, has pushed for the fight in Dubai in what would be his welterweight debut. He has beaten Southland fighters Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz in his last two bouts after losses to Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson.
