Devils to use trio of coaches to replace fired Pete DeBoer

The New Jersey Devils are replacing the fired Pete DeBoer with a three-headed coaching staff.
Former Washington Capitals coach Adam Oates, former Devils assistant and star defenseman Scott Stevens as well as General Manager Lou Lamoriello will split duties on the bench.
Oates will handle the forwards and Stevens will oversee the defense, Lamoriello said at a news conference before Saturday’s morning skate.
“I’ll go on the bench to make sure it works for now,” Lamoriello said.
There will be no official head coach for the rest of the season. Lamoriello plans to remain on the bench “until I feel comfortable with the situation.”

Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick William Nylander scored in Sweden’s 5-1 victory over Denmark in the World Junior Championship at Toronto.
In another Group B game, Nashville draft pick Kevin Fiala scored twice in Switzerland’s opening 5-2 victory over the Czech Republic.
In Group A in Montreal, Slovakia beat defending champion Finland, 2-1; and Canada played Germany.
The U.S. will play Germany on Sunday, Slovakia on Monday and finish group play Wednesday night against Canada.
