Allison Schmitt wins women’s 200-meter free; Missy Franklin 4th
LONDON---Allison Schmitt added to her medal collection, completing a set at these Olympics.
It was gold on Tuesday night with a powerful statement in the 200-meter freestyle, winning in 1 minute, 53.61 seconds. Previously, she took silver in the 400 freestyle and bronze in the 400-freestyle relay.
Camille Muffat of France, who had won the 400 freestyle in a terrific duel with Schmitt, was second in the 200 at the Aquatics Center.
Bronte Barratt of Australia took the bronze, edging American teenager Missy Franklin by one one-hundredth of a second.
Franklin won the 100 backstroke on Monday night.
