Royals to pay tribute to pitcher Yordano Ventura with special uniform patch
The Kansas City Royals will wear a special uniform patch next season in honor of deceased pitcher Yordano Ventura, the team announced Thursday on Twitter. The patch will debut this weekend at the team’s Royal FanFest.
The patch has the number Ventura wore, 30, and his nickname, “Ace.” Players will wear the patch on the right sleeve.
Ventura was killed in a car accident early Sunday in his native Dominican Republic. He was 25.
The right-hander signed with the Royals in 2008 and was a member of the 2015 World Series championship team. He had a 38-31 record and 3.89 earned-run average in four seasons in Kansas City.
