Heather Mills accused of attacking Paralympics official

The story of Paul McCartney’s former wife and her quest to make the 2014 Paralympic Games as a skier has taken a strange twist.

This week, insidethegames.biz reported Heather Mills, who had her left leg amputated below the knee after a 1993 accident, had abandoned her attempt to qualify for the British team because of an injury related to friction with her prosthetic.

Now comes an Associated Press report her effort actually ended when the International Paralympic Committee ruled her prosthetic had not been properly approved and that an infuriated Mills lunged at an IPC official.

The 45-year-old former model allegedly confronted ski committee head Sylvana Mestre at a hotel in Austria, swore at her and said “you don’t know who I am, I’m going to make your life miserable,” IPC spokesman Craig Spence was quoted as saying.

After earning a number of impressive results on the international Paralympic ski circuit, Mills’ had recently changed to a new leg and boot that were meant to fit better and more comfortably. The IPC reportedly told her she had to wear a cover over the equipment, but she complained the cover caused “unnecessary weight” and “intolerable pain.”

The IPC probably will fine her up to $1,370 and the incident will be referred to the committee’s legal and ethics committee, the Associated Press reported.

Spence said Mills “verbally abused Sylvana, and started to push her. There were 10 witnesses in the room who saw what went on.”

Mills wed McCartney, the former Beatle singer, in 2002. After having a daughter, the couple went through a highly publicized and contentious divorce in 2008.
