Police use pepper spray to control crowd seeking new Air Jordans

Alabama police used pepper spray after customers got unruly while waiting for a chance to buy the newest Nike Air Jordans in Huntsville.

The new Air Jordan 11 Bred kicks didn’t even go on sale Thursday. All you got for your effort was a wristband that allowed you to come back to the store Friday to buy them when they arrived.

Big problem: There were about 100 people in line, but only 35 wristbands. When most of the crowd realized they would be shut out, they broke line in order to grab a wristband, causing a near-riot.

Police pepper-sprayed the crowd to restore order.

How bad do people want those shoes? Some customers refused to leave to get medical attention, despite getting a face full of pepper spray. Why? They didn’t want to lose their place in line.

There were also incidents in other cities.

About a dozen police officers responded to a store in Columbus, Ga., after a crowd of hundreds got out of control waiting for a wristband.

In Houston, three men were robbed of their wristbands at gunpoint across the street from a mall.

All for a pair of shoes. The new Air Jordans cost $185.
