The Kings’ Tanner Pearson will face an NHL hearing over a hit in game with Edmonton

Kings left wing Tanner Pearson is to have a hearing for a check to the head of Edmonton Oilers defenseman Brandon Davidson, according to the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

The incident occurred in the Kings-Oilers preseason game Sunday in Vernon, Canada. Pearson was ejected from the game and Davidson did not return. Davidson’s status is day to day, according to the Oilers.

This is Pearson’s first brush with the NHL’s hearing process, a fact that could help lighten a possible suspension. The hearing will be conducted by phone but the date has not yet been announced.

Additionally, the Kings put four players on waivers, including goaltenders Peter Budaj and Jack Campbell, according to multiple reports. They also made widely expected roster cuts, sending a handful of players to their American Hockey League affiliate in Ontario. The Ontario Reign begins training camp on Tuesday.
