We’re minutes away from kickoff between Bakersfield Christian and Modesto Central Catholic in the first of five CIF state championship bowl games this weekend at StuBHub Center in Carson.
In the first matchup, Central Section winner and Division IV South regional champion Bakersfield Christian (12-2) will try to win its 13th straight game after opening the season with back-to-back road losses to Huntington Beach and Central Valley Christian of Visalia. The Eagles are averaging almost 44 points per game led by quarterback Brandon Jones (3,730 yards, 49 TDs) and running back Matt Smith (1,567 yards, 18 TDs).
Central Catholic (14-1), the Sac-Joaquin Section and Division IV North regional champion, is riding a 13-game winning streak. The Raiders are trying to repeat after routing Santa Fe Christian 66-7 in last year’s Division IV (Small School) state bowl game.
