Football: Central Catholic up 15-14 at halftime
Modesto Central Catholic has capitalized on several miscues by Bakersfield Christian and leads 15-14 at halftime of the CIF state Division IV championship bowl game at StubHub Center in Carson.
The Raiders’ only touchdown came on a fumble return midway through the first quarter. They got a safety when a high snap sailed through the back of the end zone and another fumble near midfield led to Kenny Smart’s 28-yard field goal that gave Central Catholic the lead with under four minutes left in the half.
Bakersfield Christian quarterback Brandon Jones is having a huge day, completing 18 of 25 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown. he has also run for a score, but the Eagles have gained only two yards on the ground and they have to stop turning the ball over.
It’s still anyone’s game with 24 minutes and Bakersfield Christian overame a 20-point deficit to win the Central Section championship two weeks ago. Central Catholic will get the ball to start the second half.
