Southern Section announces sanctions for St. Paul-Riverside Notre Dame fight

St. Paul and Riverside Notre Dame will have to forfeit their next games and also double forfeited their game last Friday after a fight erupted in the third quarter, causing officials to stop the game with 7:35 left, the Southern Section announced on Monday.
Suspensions because of players leaving the sideline will force St. Paul to forfeit its game on Friday against Bishop Amat and cause Notre Dame to forfeit its game against Nuview Bridge on Sept. 23.
Notre Dame Principal Matthew Luttringer released a statement on Sunday: “What occurred at the game was not at all a representation of either school _ who we are or what we believe in. We are deeply sorry and embarrassed by the events of the night and are working with CIF and St. Paul’s to make certain that the parties involved are not only disciplined but are able to make this experience into a life lesson. We all experience conflict and adversity but how we deal with it and who we become as a result is what really matters in the end.”
