Mark Bates, a former head coach at L.A. Baptist who has been the top assistant at Oaks Christian, has been hired as the football coach at Sun Valley Village Christian.
Bates was a key figure at Oaks Christian during the reign of Bill Redell.
“He’ll do a great job,” Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell said.
Bates was hired to be Village Christian’s director of football operations and a dean. For 13 years, he was associate head coach at Oaks Christian and served both as offensive and defensive coordinator during his stay. He tried to become Oaks Christian’s head coach two years ago but wasn’t hired.
He’s a Village Christian grad.
“It’s an exciting opportunity,” Bates said. “It’s just the right time personally to get back into a head coach position.”
