Football: Los Angeles vs. Hawkins might be the best game of the weekend
If you want intensity, competitiveness, drama and a little unpredictability, then the best championship football game of the weekend could be the City Section Division II final between Los Angeles and Hawkins at 3 p.m. at El Camino College.
Hawkins is 13-0 and considered on paper the second-best team to Narbonne. Hawkins and Los Angeles met on Oct. 21 in a Coliseum League game, and Hawkins got the victory, 34-22. It was a close, hard-fought game. Last season, their only matchup resulted in a tie.
Los Angeles is the team that came closest to defeating Narbonne this season and also wasn’t at full strength against the Hawks. They are now.
Los Angeles Coach Eric Scott and Hawkins Coach Mil’von James were standout high school players at Crenshaw and Fremont, respectively. Both ended up playing at UCLA.
Hawkins is filled with players that have college offers. Los Angeles has its share of college prospects, led by the defensive duo of Martin Andrus and Chris Green.
It’s a rivalry game. As Andrus put it, “We don’t like them; they don’t like us.”
