Ready or not, the league season begins in the City Section for the East Valley, Eastern, Central, Exposition, Northern and Valley Mission Leagues.
In the East Valley, Monroe (4-0) has the best record, but Arleta (2-1) is the favorite, and the Vikings will face Arleta on Friday.
In the Central, Hollywood, Bernstein and Marquez are 3-1.
In the Eastern, Huntington Park is 4-0, led by tight end Henry Diaz. Garfield (2-2) and Roosevelt (3-1) are the favorites, but beware of South Gate (3-1), which is really 4-0 because of a forfiet and has running back Lavell Thompson.
In the Valley Mission League, there should be a huge crowd for the league opener between Sylmar and host San Fernando on Friday. Canoga Park (3-1) and Sylmar (2-2) are the league favorites.
In the Northern, Eagle Rock (2-2) and Franklin (2-2) have the best records, but Lincon (1-3) should be right there in the end.
In the Exposition, there’s lots of surprise teams. Los Angeles is 3-0 under first-year Coach Eric Scott. Hawkins is unbeaten on the field but had to forfeit two victories because of ineligible players. Santee is 3-0.
