Football: Eastern League teams are showing potential
- Share via
One of the most solid leagues in the City Section this season should be the Eastern League, where South East, Roosevelt and Huntington Park have each started 3-0. Also, Garfield (1-2) has played well in losses to Southern Section powers St. Bonaventure and Huntington Beach Edison. Bell is 2-1.
South East gets a major test on Friday playing at Taft. Under first-year Coach Greg Dixon, South East has a talented two-way player in running back-linebacker Daniel Belton. He has games of 113 yards rushing against Lawndale and 107 yards against Warren. He has 29 tackles in three games. Here’s the link to Belton’s 2012 highlight video but the music has some profanity.
For Roosevelt, it’s all about the versatile David Arriaga, whose running and passing has helped Roosevelt get past Fairfax, Sylmar and El Camino Real.
