Football: Crenshaw’s Jacob Knight is a running back to watch

Ever since De’Anthony Thomas showed everyone what can be done as a running back at Crenshaw High, the position has been more than just glamorous. The starter is expected to be very productive.

Jacob Knight, entering his senior year, enjoys the pressure of living up to expectations at the position. He has speed, size and instincts to excel.

Perhaps the top returning running back in the City Section is Johnell Jackson of Narbonne. He’s entering his third season as a starter. He rushed for nearly 1,000 yards for the City champs.

Alijah Lee of Venice is a big-play back from a school that has produced several Pac-12 starters at the position.

Taylor May of Arleta has been tough to stop in the East Valley League. Lavell Thompson of South Gate showed breakaway speed as a sophomore.

Birmingham has an intriguing tailback in sophomore Sterling Salguero. He was so young last season that he couldn’t play varsity until he turned 14 at midseason. Coach Jim Rose expects him to be a standout.
