Boys’ basketball: Westchester holds off Narbonne, 62-58
Comets hold off Narbonne to advance to City final
Westchester barely held off Narbonne, 62-58, in a City Section Division I semifinal game on Saturday at L.A. Southwest College.
Elijah Stewart, who scored 27 points, made a key three-point play in the final 30 seconds to bail out the Comets (28-5), who had trouble guarding Reverand Maduakor. He went to the free-throw line 19 times, making 13 and finishing with 21 points for Narbonne (23-9). Jamal Hicks added 18 points.
Myles Stewart contributed 14 points for Westchester, which will play El Camino Real in next Saturday’s final.
Westchester Coach Ed Azzam praised the game plan of Narbonne Coach Anthony Hilliard.
“Anthony did a great job with their kids,” Azzam said.”They were prepared and did everything they needed to to do to win. I was not happy the way we played. We’re very fortunate to get through this game.”
