Boys’ basketball: Riverside King wins 1A title
Tim Sweeney Jr., the coach at Riverside King in his 14th year, said he almost quit this season. On Saturday, his team made him feel so good after a 61-46 victory over Villa Park in the 1A championship game.
“This has been the most difficult year of my career, to where I was ready to hang it up,” he said.
King was only 5-5 in league play, but the team got its act together. Maurice Jones scored 17 points and Chris Lott had 15. Freshman Matthew Mitchell contributed 11 points. Lamont Tyler led Villa Park with 26 points.
“This was very sweet this team was able to put it together,” Sweeney said.
