Boys’ basketball: Matt Hauser comes through with 54-point performance

Matt Hauser, a senior guard at Thousand Oaks who signed with Santa Clara, scored a school-record 54 points on Friday in the Lancers’ 107-45 win over Channel Islands in an opening game of the Santa Barbara tournament.
He’s the third player from Southern California to reach the 50-point mark this season, joining Bennie Boatwright of Village Christian and LiAngelo Ball of Chino Hills. Newbury Park defeated Pioneer, 52-42. Joe Sampson had 13 points.
In San Diego, No. 1 Redondo held off Loyola, 64-55, in a first-round game of the Torrey Pines tournament. Billy Preston scored 20 points and Leland Green 14. Stone Gettings had 21 points and 14 rebounds for Loyola. Corona Centennial defeated Cantwell-Sacred Heart, 68-46. Sedrick Barefield scored 20 points.
Fairfax improved to 7-0 with a 58-55 win over Bellevue. Westchester was beaten by Foothills Christian, 67-49. Donald Gipson had 18 points and Lindsey Drew, who committed to Arizona State, had 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
Lynwood defeated Taft, 77-70. Mayfair defeated Parker, 61-50. Crespi defeated Bakersfield, 61-27. Brandon Williams had 11 points. Michael Alvarez had 30 points in Oak Park’s 76-71 win over Stockton St. Mary’s. Riley Battin added 18 points.
In the Chaminade tournament, Michael Oguine scored 25 points in the Eagles’ 76-22 win over Reseda. Chaminade is 9-1. Oaks Christian defeated Lancaster, 71-35. Eastside defeated Birmingham, 61-51. Other scores: Washington Curtis 70, Golden Valley 57; Menlow 59, Granada Hills Kennedy 29; Valencia 58, L.A. Marshall 53
In the La Salle tournament, Calabasas defeated Malibu, 77-49. Justin Bessard scored 26 points. Stephen Thompson had 30 points in Bishop Montgomery’s 104-23 win over Venice. South Pasadena defeated St. Monica, 52-43. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Legacy, 88-41, with Aaron Haigler getting 12 points and 10 rebounds. Trinity defeated Renaissance, 73-64, with Ryan Brooks and Ian Caddow each scoring 19 points.
San Marcos defeated Eisenhower, 52-38. El Camino Real made 12 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off Bell-Jeff, 67-58. Marcel Addy had 17 points. Chris Terry had 14 points and was seven of eight on free throws. Highland defeated Granada Hills, 64-60. Ryan Beddeo had 30 points in West Ranch’s 68-60 win over Stockdale. Joseph Robinson had 24 points in Palisades’ 48-43 win over St. Bernard.
Aaron Holiday scored 26 points in Campbell Hall’s 76-61 win over Chatsworth. Gabriel-Bell Williams added 20 points. Village Christian defeated Providence, 84-52.
In the MaxPreps tournament, Mater Dei defeated Rancho Mirage, 85-26. MJ Cage had 21 points. Then the Monarchs defeated Utah American Fork, 63-46. Cage had 15 points and La’vette Parker 14. Sierra Canyon defeated Sacramento, 62-55. Remy Martin had 16 points. Despite 25 points from Malik Fitts and 22 from Jeremy Hemsley, Damien lost to Georgia Pebblebrook, 68-66. Delewis Johnson had 28 points in Etwianda’s 68-49 win over Archbishop Mitty.
Rancho Cucamonga got 25 points from Tamer Jabsheh in an 84-74 win over Ponderosa.
Alemany received 23 points from Shacquille Dawkins in a 63-58 win over Saddleback Valley Christian. Viewpoint defeated Victor Valley, 69-44. Miye Oni had 21 points.
In the Orange tournament, Chandler Dignam had 29 points in Anaheim Canyon’s 78-71 win over Beckman. Tesoro defeated Yorba Linda, 58-52. Long Beach Jordan defeated Orange, 74-24. Orange Lutheran defeated Amador Valley, 75-43. Rogers Printup scored 18 points and CJ Hankins and Keisean Lucier-South added 17 points apiece. La Mirada defeated Lynden, 62-59.
In the Ventura tournament, Westlake defeated Rio Mesa, 69-42. Luis Herrera made five three-pointers and finished with 15 points.
In the San Gabriel Valley tournament, Sun Valley Poly defeated Gabrielino, 92-77. Cesar Reyes had 42 points and 10 assists and was 10 of 10 from the free-throw line. Ayala defeated San Marino, 46-44.
Hart tournament scores: Camarillo 71, Grant 62; Saugus 67, Glendale 53; Righetti 71, South Bakersfield 30; Hart 79, Bakersfield Golden Valley 36.
Servite got 26 points from Trevor Treinen in an 84-28 win over El Rancho.
In the San Pedro tournament, South Gate defeated La Quinta, 64-37. David Mixon and David Hernandez each scored 15 points.
