Boys’ basketball: Loyola holds off Compton, 64-63

Loyola and Compton engaged in a memorable duel on Saturday night at Redondo High, and when the final buzzer sounded, Loyola escaped with a 64-63 win to improve to 13-0.
Kyron Cartwright was fouled with one second left but missed both free throws. Thomas Welsh had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Loyola, which begins Mission League play this week.
Redondo defeated Alemany, 69-58. Mayfair upset Etiwanda, 59-58. Cantwell-Sacred Heart received 20 points from Joey Corvarrubias to defeat Lawndale, 69-57.
At Inglewood, Bishop Montgomery held off Long Beach Poly, 55-54.
At El Camino Real, the Conquistadores defeated Windward, 63-50. Maleke Haynes scored 16 points.
At Chatsworth, Poly defeated the host Chancellors, 66-64. Sal Gonzalez had 21 points for the Parrots.
Buckley is 17-0 after winning the Las Vegas Mountain View tournament with a 61-49 win over Utah Layton Christian. Astin Beal was named tournament MVP.
Tim Howell had 21 points in Viewpoint’s 60-31 win over Flintridge Prep.
Crespi defeated Ventura, 59-34.
