Boys’ basketball: Chino Hills is rising fast

The school-record 122 points Chino Hills scored on Thursday night in a win over Rancho Cucamonga is another sign of a team on the rise.

The Ball brothers, sophomore Lonzo Ball and freshman Gelo Ball, are quite a duo. Lonzo had 11 assists. Gelo scored 20 points.

Bishop Mency is a talented 6-foot-5 senior. He had 26 points. There’s also a 6-9 junior in Nnamdi Okongwu.

And come Jan. 6, Chino Hills will get eligible a highly regarded sophomore transfer from Pasadena La Salle, Milan Acquuah.

So if you’re marking down 12 to 16 teams to be part of the new Southern Section Open Division playoffs, Chino Hills (7-1) would be a good bet.

The Huskies play at Colony in a semifinal game of the Inland Empire Classic on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
