Baseball: Phil Bickford begins classes at Cal State Fullerton

Former Westlake Village Oaks Christian pitcher Phil Bickford, the 10th pick overall in this summer’s amateur baseball draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, has begun classes at Cal State Fullerton. He decided not sign before last July’s deadline and won’t be eligible for the draft again until 2016.
Bickford hasn’t discussed his decision, but Fullerton Coach Rick Vanderhook said he played catch with Bickford on Tuesday and everyone has moved on.
Bickford was the only one of 33 first-round draft picks not to sign.
“They didn’t agree with want he wanted, and he wanted to go to school,” Vanderhook said.
