Baseball: Hart High is celebrating for Mike Montgomery, Cubs
Hart High baseball Coach Jim Ozella was scheduled to meet with his team for practice Thursday afternoon. His first question was going to be, “Did you watch the game last night?”
Of course, Hart players saw Mike Montgomery, class of 2008, get the save in the Chicago Cubs’ 8-7, 10-inning game seven World Series victory over the Cleveland Indians. And former Hart pitcher Trevor Bauer got the final two outs for the Indians.
“It’s a big deal,” Ozella said. “Those guys are role models for this group.”
Montgomery always drops by each January to the Hart baseball field to start working out for the upcoming season. His parents live close by.
Ozella was receiving congratulations all day at campus. He coached Montgomery and Bauer. This season, there were six former Hart players who played in the major leagues. No high school in America can top that.
Ozella got to attend game three at Wrigley Field with the help of a ticket supplied by Montgomery.
