Lineups set for NHL’s All-Star skills competition

The NHL on Friday announced the list of players’ assignments for the All-Star skills competition, which will be held Saturday at Staples Center as part of the league’s All-Star weekend. The All Star Game will be played Sunday, also at Staples Center. It will be played in a division-based, three-on-three format of two mini-games lasting 20 minutes each. The winner of each mini-game will compete in the final, with the winning team getting $1 million.
The skills competition, always popular with fans and a relaxed event for players, will carry some importance this time around. Players representing Central and Pacific divisions will compete for points against players from the Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions, and the winning team will be permitted to choose its first opponent and whether it will play the first game or second game on Sunday.
All four local representatives — Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty of the Kings, and Cam Fowler and Ryan Kesler of the Ducks — will compete in the relay event. Kesler will compete in the four line challenge event, Carter will compete in the accuracy shooting event, and Doughty will compete in the hardest shot event.
Here’s the complete list.
