Dodgers tie Rangers, 5-5, in spring training

AT THE PLATE: Shortstop Justin Turner continued to make an impression, going two for two with a pair of runs, raising his average to .375. Outfielder Mike Baxter also had two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in. He is hitting .333. But the Dodgers, who are batting .235 as a team this spring, went four for 13 with runners in scoring positions, leaving 11 men on base.

ON THE MOUND: Veteran left-hander Paul Maholm continued to press his case for a spot in the Dodgers’ rotation, striking out four in a three-inning stint in which he gave up just one run. Seth Rosin followed with three innings of one-hit relief in which he allowed his first run of the spring. The run was unearned, though, leaving Rosin’s Cactus League earned-run average at 0.00 through eight innings.

EXTRA BASES: For the second time in three days, the Dodgers couldn’t protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning and had to settle for a tie, the team’s third in its first 11 Cactus League games. The Dodgers also committed two errors, giving them 13 this spring.
