Letters: Bored by the America’s Cup
Re “Huge egos, fast boats,” Opinion, Sept. 10
While it may be impossible for overreach, ego or tragedy to kill the America’s Cup, boredom could do it.
As long as there are only two boats in the race, there is no real excitement in watching the competition. The boat that gets the best start only has to watch the second boat and cover each tack to stay in front. A third boat would remove this advantage.
People watch sports where skill, strategy and surprise can change the outcome of the event.
