Letters: Busting baseball’s cheats

Re “Baseball bans 13 for drug abuse,” Aug. 6
We’ve witnessed a significant change to the game of baseball through the use of steroids and other performance-
enhancing drugs. Batting records have been eclipsed. The game has been barely recognizable these past 20 years. Many baseball careers have been stunted in favor of those who cheated.
The Major League Baseball Players Assn. has finally come around to support a clean game. Twelve of the 13 players suspended for their role in the Biogenesis scandal are accepting their punishment in the best interests of baseball.
All-time hits leader Pete Rose’s crime against baseball — betting on games — pales in comparison with the drug scandal, yet he was banned for life.
