At least one person killed in 30-vehicle crash on Denver freeway

Thirty vehicles, including a semi-truck, crashed into each other on a snowy highway in Denver on Saturday morning, killing one person and injuring several, police said.

The entire northbound side of Interstate 25 remained blocked near Downing Street by the pileup as of late morning, according to traffic camera video. Ambulances and police cars surrounded the cloudy scene. No tow trucks appeared to be in the area.

At least one firetruck was on the southbound side of the freeway, slowing traffic on that side as well.

Light snow was blanketing Denver early Saturday with temperatures in the teens. Showers and improved visibility were expected to take over later in the day.

Traffic was also backed up on the I-70 eastbound in several spots. Both the I-70 and I-25 wrap around the heart of the Denver.

Denver police officials said they were en route to the scene, and there was no indication yet about what caused the crash or when the freeway might be cleared.

Authorities said the road closure began at 10:51 a.m.
