High-wind forecast prompts fire-danger alert for Los Angeles area

Strong, gusty winds and low humidity prompted forecasters to issue a high-fire-danger alert for most of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Tuesday will bring a period of “high fire weather concern,” according to the National Weather Service.
Winds with gusts of up to 50 mph were expected in parts of Southern California starting Tuesday morning and were forecast to last until early evening, forecasters said.
The winds have the potential to bring “extreme fire behavior” if a fire is started, according to the weather service.
Concerns over high fire danger were expected to last until Thursday, forecasters said.
A high-wind advisory is scheduled to expire at 10 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a high-wind watch expected to remain in effect through Wednesday evening, forecasters said.
The weather service warned that powerful winds could make driving difficult, especially for taller vehicles.
Strong gusts also have the potential to down power lines and trees and cause property damage.
