Sulfur-dioxide leak at Phillips 66 refinery sickens workers
Eleven workers at the Phillips 66 oil refinery in Wilmington were hospitalized Tuesday after being exposed to sulfur dioxide gas, authorities said.
Hazardous-material crews responded to the incident around 10 a.m. at 1660 W. Anaheim St., according to Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The 11 workers were taken to hospitals, where they were listed in fair condition, Main said.
She said there was no active leak or danger to the surrounding community.
“The area has been secured and the refinery is running under normal operations,” Phillips 66 spokesman Rich Johnson said.
Phillips 66 was created in 2012 by the separation of Conoco Phillips into two stand-alone companies.
