Long Beach’s first homicide victim of 2014 is identified

Los Angeles County coroner’s officials have identified the victim in Long Beach’s first homicide of 2014.
Sanbo Chhoy, 33, was shot and killed in the Cambodia Town area, near Polytechnic High School on Monday.
The shooting was reported about 9:55 p.m. in the 1100 block of New York Street, where officers discovered Chhoy’s body, according to the Long Beach Police Department
Chhoy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim
Nancy Pratt, a spokeswoman for the department, said it was the first homicide reported for the city this year.
There were about 40 homicides reported in Long Beach in 2013, according to the Homicide Report.
In 2013, Long Beach was the 58th-deadliest neighborhood out of Los Angeles County’s 270 neighborhoods, according to a Times analysis of homicide data for that period.
Monday’s fatal shooting remains under investigation.
