A Hacienda Heights man has been arrested in the slaying of his 66-year-old mother, whose body was discovered bound in the trunk of her car, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Clifton Huang, 43, was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the Industry sheriff’s station on $2-million bail late Thursday.
The body of Vilma Chau was found in the trunk of her vehicle with her hands and feet bound Thursday. The car was parked in her garage in the 15000 block of Las Tunas Drive.
“Family members had not heard from the victim for a few days so decided to check on her,” department officials said in a statement. “When they arrived, they noticed a strong odor emanating from the garage area.”
At that point, deputies were called to investigate.
Huang was initially detained for a possible probation violation. He was booked on the murder charge hours later.
He’s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. Detectives are investigating the motive for Chau’s death.
