A Fresno babysitter was arrested last week after sheriff’s deputies found her and a man passed out in a car that contained several bottles of vodka and a baby in the backseat, authorities said.
Deputies found 40-year-old Meche Rosales and Raul Gomez, 44, both of Fresno, passed out in a car near a park at North Del Mar and West Mesa avenues at 2:40 p.m. Friday after a passerby spotted them, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Rosales was babysitting a friend’s 10-month-old daughter, who was in the backseat, said Tony Botti, a department spokesman. Rosales, who was in the driver’s seat, and Gomez woke up after deputies arrived.
The child was uninjured in the incident. Her mother was at work and “had no idea her friend Rosales had been drinking,” Botti said.
Rosales and Gomez were booked into the Fresno County Jail and cited for misdemeanor cruelty to a child. Rosales was cited for misdemeanor driving under the influence and Gomez for misdemeanor public intoxication. Both were later released.
