Motorcyclist, pedestrian dead after Manhattan Beach crash
A motorcyclist and a pedestrian were killed Tuesday morning in a Manhattan Beach crash, officials said.
Police and firefighters responded to the 600 block of Sepulveda Avenue about 5:30 a.m., said Officer Stephanie Martin, Manhattan Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
There, they found an 87-year-old Manhattan Beach woman, later identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as Ruby May Hixon, lying in the road’s northbound lane closest to the curb.
About a block away, Martin said, authorities found the motorcyclist. He was identified by the coroner’s office as Daniel Matthew Lindeman, 41, of Torrance. His motorcycle was another block away, Martin said.
Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
The crash closed Sepulveda Boulevard in both directions for several hours. Martin said that investigators were working to determine details of the crash but that, so far, no witnesses had come forward.
“We believe [Hixon] was in the roadway,” Martin said. “Whether she was in an unmarked crosswalk is yet to be determined.”
She asked that “anyone who was driving through” the area about the time of the accident to call the department at (310) 802-5140.
