A 30-year-old Orange County man died early Thursday morning in Costa Mesa after he ran a red light on his motorcycle and struck a sport utility vehicle, officials said.
The motorcyclist, Jonathan Vantrease of Costa Mesa, died at the scene, the Orange County coroner’s office said.
Vantrease struck the front passenger side of a Toyota 4-Runner as the SUV drove through the intersection of 19th Street and Harbor Boulevard in Costa Mesa, said Lt. Greg Scott of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
The 27-year-old driver, who had just left a late-evening Christmas Eve church service, was not hurt. He stayed at the scene of the crash to be questioned and was not arrested or cited, police said.
