2 cheetah cubs being raised by humans due to mom’s poor track record
As a mother, a cheetah named Allie at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park has been a flop: Her previous litters failed to survive.
So zookeepers are hand-raising twin female cubs born to Allie three weeks ago, including bottle feeding. The cubs can be seen for a few hours a day at the park’s animal care center, starting at 9 a.m.
When the as-yet-unnamed cubs are strong enough, each will get a domestic dog as a companion.
The cubs, whose eyes recently opened, are doing well, the zoo says. “They’re great eaters,” said keeper Eileen Neff.
