Assault suspect taken into custody after prompting evacuation at USC’s Doheny Library

An assault suspect was taken into custody Saturday evening after prompting an evacuation at the Doheny Library on the USC campus and a large police response.

The male suspect, who was only described as being in his 30s, was taken into custody about 5:30 p.m., said LAPD Sgt. Felipe Pardo.

The incident began about 4 p.m. when the suspect, posing as a USC security guard, lured a female student into the basement of the library and held her against her will, Pardo said.

The woman screamed and campus police were called to the scene, police said. As officers attempted to arrest the man, he escaped to another part of the library. 

The building was evacuated and Los Angeles police were called to the scene.

The suspect, who was not armed, was arrested about 5:30 p.m., police said. The victim was unharmed.
