Fern Canyon fan and two votes for trip insurance

Eyes wide open in Fern Canyon
Surely, staff writer Tim Hubbard will be returning to Patrick’s Point [Down & Dirty, Nov. 11]. Just 20 miles farther north, a hike through Fern Canyon in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park would leave his eyes wide. He might even encounter a bull elk. It happened to me.

Two votes for trip insurance
Regarding “Is Insurance Really Necessary? Yes. No.” [More for Your Money, Nov. 11]: Depends on what you want to cover. If traveling in the U.S., I never take out trip cancellation or medical coverage. My Medicare and supplement will cover medical emergencies. But if traveling abroad, I always get a minimum of $500,000 for medical evacuation. On my first cruise, a ship passenger had to medevac from the ship to the closest New Zealand hospital.
--Joseph Lea, Mission Viejo
We recommend full trip cancellation insurance to all our clients who take our rail journeys.
Recently, in Prague, Czech Republic, my husband had an accident and our policy kicked in. Upgrade to business class the doctor prescribed ($7,000); coach air ticket change for me ($1,000.) Peace of mind: priceless.
