Gore’s son is charged with multiple drug counts in O.C.
The son of former Vice President Al Gore was charged Friday with illegally possessing marijuana and various prescription drugs after being pulled over July 4 in Mission Viejo for speeding at 100 mph in his Toyota Prius.
Albert Arnold Gore III, 24, was charged by the Orange County district attorney’s office with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing drugs without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possessing marijuana and a traffic infraction for speeding, authorities said.
If convicted on all charges, he could face more than three years in prison. But he might be eligible for a drug diversion program instead.
Gore, of Los Angeles, was pulled over by Orange County sheriff’s deputies about 2:15 a.m. on the 5 Freeway near Oso Parkway in Mission Viejo. A subsequent search of his car revealed a small amount of marijuana as well as a variety of prescription pills, including Adderall, Valium, Vicodin and Xanax, deputies said.
Investigators determined that he had no prescriptions for the drugs. Gore was arrested but later released on $20,000 bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Aug. 1.
