Jail population: In the July 10 Section A, a headline on an article about Los Angeles County’s search for places to house its growing jail population referred to inmates being transferred from state prisons to local jails to reduce prison overcrowding. No inmates are being moved from state prisons to county jails. Under the state’s realignment program, more low-level offenders are kept in local jails rather than being transferred to state custody. Headlines for articles in the LATExtra section on Aug. 8, 2011, and Section A on Nov. 11, 2011, made the same error.
Philip Fradkin obituary: The obituary of writer Philip Fradkin in the July 11 LATExtra section said that the Colorado River flows into the Gulf of Mexico. Its outlet is the Gulf of California.
