Socrates: In the Dec. 5 LATExtra section, a brief obituary of former soccer great Socrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, known simply as Socrates, was accompanied by a photograph of another Brazilian player, Leovegildo Lins da Gama Junior. Socrates is pictured above during his playing days in 1982.
Mars rover: In the Nov. 27 LATExtra section, an article about the launch of the Mars Science Laboratory said that cameras on the Curiosity rover would bring back high-definition still photographs and videos to Earth. It should have said that the cameras would transmit such images to Earth.
Ken Russell: The obituary of filmmaker Ken Russell in the Nov. 29 LATExtra section, citing an Associated Press report, said he died in a hospital. Russell died at his home in southern England.
Times commemorative section: The opening essay in the commemorative section elsewhere in this edition, 130 Years of Iconic Images, misspelled the first name of Philip Graham as Phillip. The error was detected after the section went to press.
