Nominees from the two major parties will not be finalized until the Democratic National Convention August 25-28 in Denver and the Republican National Convention September 1-4.

California ballot measures:
Three initiatives dealing with treatment of farm animals and bonds for passenger trains and children's hospitals have qualified for the Nov. 4 ballot. Fifteen others, including one to restrict the definition of marriage and one to change the way legislative districts are drawn, are undergoing signature counting and verification.
