New Men’s Fashion Week Los Angeles announces venue, dates
The newest entry in Los Angeles’ fractured fashion week derby, Men’s Fashion Week Los Angeles (MFWLA), has firmed up its debut dates, locked in a venue and announced a high-profile partnership.
On Thursday, MFWLA organizers announced it would be collaborating with the California Market Center to present its spring and summer 2014 menswear collections at the CMC’s 110 East 9th St. building in downtown L.A. and that the inaugural MFWLA will unspool concurrently with the Spring 2014 L.A. Fashion Market. According to the CMC’s events calendar, that would be Oct. 13-16, though the MFWLA’s site lists just two days -- Oct. 14 and 15.
According to the announcement, the collections will be presented to the news media and buyers in a part of the CMC known as Area 4, which is on the fourth floor of the building’s B wing.
In addition to a home and a date penciled in on the calendar, the newest “week” on the L.A. fashion scene already has a logo (a jaunty red bow tie that stands in for the double “e” in “week”), and an official face and voice (spokes-model Brian Sibley). Now the only thing it’s sorely lacking -- and the one thing we’re most interested in -- is an actual roster of designers for the dedicated men’s fashion week’s maiden voyage.
According to organizers, that news is still two months away. “We are planning to announce the full schedule of designers during the first week of October,” a MFWLA representative told us in an email.
