Host Dean Cain presents escape artists, mentalists and others who make the impossible seem possible —often with a comedic touch. Great Performances Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform Verdi’s Requiem Mass at the Hollywood Bowl in this new episode. 9 p.m. KOCE
Redwood Kings Twin-brother artisans John and Ron Daniels are at the heart of this fascinating new series, which reveals how they take ancient, reclaimed redwood trees and transform them into works of art. In the premiere, a San Diego couple commissions them to use an enormous hollowed-out redwood tree trunk to build their grandkids a treehouse in the shape of an elaborate pirate-themed ship. 9 p.m. Animal Planet
The Almighty Johnsons In this new episode Axl (Emmet Skilton) discovers there’s a lot to like about his epic quest, especially the parts that involve getting hammered and chasing beautiful women, but Mike (Tim Balme) is having a far more stressful time. Roz Turnbull, Ben Barrington and Dean O’Gorman also stars. 10 p.m. Syfy

David Bowie: Five Years The filmmakers behind this British documentary were given access to the rock star’s personal archive to incorporate previously unseen footage as they explore five crucial years in his life and career. The film opens in 1971, with the creation of Bowie’s glitter-rock alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust. 9 p.m. Showtime
