Listen: Shakira, Rihanna team up on ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’

Here’s one thing about hype: It’s almost impossible to live up to.

That’s the case of the highly anticipated Shakira and Rihanna collaboration, “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” which premiered Monday.

News that the pop stars came together to flaunt their sexiness in song sparked plenty of online chatter, especially when the official artwork surfaced of a sultry Rihanna draped over Shakira’s lap, herself equally smoldering.

Unfortunately, the single, which launches Shakira’s follow-up to 2010’s “Sale el Sol,” could use more steam.

The up-tempo pop-rock number is dipped in the Latin and island flavors at the roots of both stars, but lacks the heat Shakira and Rihanna have brought on dozens of hip-swinging singles before this.

On the track, the two trade lines about a bad boy who’s impossible to ditch.

“I can’t remember to forget you / I keep forgetting I should let you go / But when you look at me, the only memory, is us kissing in the moonlight,” they each sing on the admittedly catchy chorus.

It’s fun, sure, but so would be taking said bad boy home for the night or pushing him off a cliff. Either would have yielded sexier, more memorable, results.

Now, if only we could remember to forget this.
