The popular series of self-help books known as “Chicken Soup for the Soul” will be coming to the big screen.
Alcon Entertainment, whose previous projects include “The Blind Side” and the unlikely literary adaptation of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” announced that it had acquired film and television rights to the brand and would finance and produce a feature film with that name.
First published some 20 years ago, “Chicken Soup for the Soul” has grown into an enormous brand, with more than 250 titles in print and translations in more than 40 languages. There is also a line of food products as well as other merchandise.

In a statement, Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said, “We’re thrilled to partner with ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul,’ the world-renowned brand that has become synonymous with inspiration and life improvement and has touched hundreds of millions of readers through the power of storytelling. The ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ series lends itself perfectly to a fictional narrative that will inspire, entertain and intrigue.”
Brandon Camp was announced as the writer of the film project, which will be drawn from stories in the books. Camp’s previous credits include writing and directing the 2009 Jennifer Aniston/Aaron Eckhart vehicle “Love Happens,” though it was not immediately clear whether Camp will also be the one making “Chicken Soup.”
