‘Inferno’ burns cold at the box office

Far from burning up the box office, the weekend opening of Ron Howard’s “Inferno” brought in a lukewarm $5.6 million Friday.
The Sony thriller, starring Tom Hanks, is the third installment in an otherwise successful film franchise that includes “The Da Vinci Code.”
Still, “Inferno” is poised to be the No. 1 earner at the box office this weekend, taking in an estimated $16 million.
Not far behind is Tyler Perry’s holiday comedy “Boo! A Madea Halloween.” In its second weekend, the Lionsgate horror spoof brought in an estimated $4.59 million on Friday, and is expected to reach $15 million.
“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” made estimated $2.9 million Friday as it moved into its second weekend. The mystery crime drama starring Tom Cruise is projected to hit around $9.7 million.
The October surprise, however, comes from India. Hindi romance “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” reached an estimated $765,000 on Friday on its limited release. The film, directed by Karan Johar, could see a top 10 finish at $2.5 million.
