Sissy Spacek No, the actress hasn’t started a sideline in noise-rock. But Sissy Spacek is the new collaborative project from local avant-garde composer John Wiese, whose hand-modded synthesizer explorations can veer from the ephemerally beautiful to absolute mangled destruction. Brian Wright The plain-spoken singer-songwriter relocated to Los Angeles from Texas years ago, making a name for himself in the local scene with his band, Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies. This year, he headed into new territory with the release of his first solo record, “House on Fire,” from Sugar Hill Records, which showcases Wright’s heartfelt blend of folk, rock and blues. Ai Weiwei Panel Ai is perhaps China’s best known artist and dissident. At this LACMA panel, Stephen Little (curator and head of the Chinese and Korean art department), Franklin Sirmans (curator and department head of contemporary art) and Christina Yu (assistant curator of Chinese and Korean art) will discuss his body of work and legacy as a brave voice of democratic reform in his country.
