Hollywood Headlines: a crazy week in review

Larry King’s finally giving up his mantle and handing it over to Piers Morgan. Piers is the snooty Brit who found fame on these shores on “America’s Got Talent” as a sort of backup Simon Cowell -- and he also won “Celebrity Apprentice.” Back home, Piers edited one of the daily tabloids for a good few years, so we know he knows how to get his hands dirty. She may be MTV’s favorite orange person, but “Jersey Shore’s” Snooki, pictured at left, failed to completely win over a judge. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was arrested in New Jersey in July, entering a guilty plea on a charge of interfering with “the enjoyment of the quiet use of the beach or public boardwalk.” By pleading guilty, she saw the disorderly conduct and public nuisance charges disappear -- but the judge wasn’t done yet. He then compared her to Lindsay Lohan and ordered her to pay a $500 fine and perform two days of community service.  (Mel Evans / Associated Press)

The new season of “Glee” is almost upon us! To celebrate, Fox threw a loud bash at the Studios at Paramount. Oh, the singing! Oh, the stars! The cast was there, natch, along with other big names and smiling faces. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was in a car accident on Thursday but was lucky enough to walk away. Ah, celebrities. They always put such an original spin on the most mundane of interrelational transactions. Take, for instance, Spencer Pratt and the typical “I’m sorry” gesture. Spencer went way beyond the usual heartfelt e-mail or bouquet and went directly to People magazine to say how remorseful he is about his divorce from Heidi. He even apologized for “failing spectacularly” in conducting himself with dignity and maturity. And he didn’t stop there. If Mother Teresa ever came back as the sexiest thing ever, you’d have what Pakistan flood victims saw the other day as none other than Angelina Jolie visited the disaster area. It was all in a day’s work as the U.N. goodwill ambassador as Jolie visited a region that has seen deaths top 1,700, with a further 17 million affected. America was all set to hear Susan Boyle serenade them on “America’s Got Talent” on Wednesday, but sadly, SuBo (as she’s been unnecessarily nicknamed) couldn’t perform. The onus wasn’t on her; it was all down to the lawyers who had cleared her performance of Lou Reed‘s “Perfect Day” but who’d forgot to clear it for U.S. TV (just British). D’oh! SuBo had rehearsed only the one song, so when it fell apart she had to find something else to do. It’s time for a different Clinton to be caught by the media in a PDA -- this time, newly and happily married Chelsea. She was out with hubby Marc Mezvinsky at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships, enjoying a game or two and watching Venus Williams win -- so obviously there was a lot of love in the air. Love. Get it?
